Background & experience
Dr Shama Kanodia is a consultant psychiatrist at Belmont Private Hospital. She has a special interest in women’s mental health, with over 25 years of postgraduate experience, and has worked across both the public and private sectors.
She provides inpatient admissions to Belmont Private Hospital and supports patients attending Day Therapy programs, alongside her outpatient consulting — giving continuity of care across different levels of support.
Qualifications & memberships
Dr Kanodia holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), and holds a Certificate of Advanced Training in Adult Psychiatry.

Women’s mental health across life stages
Dr Kanodia’s focus is the mental health of women through every stage of life — from the menstrual cycle and premenstrual difficulties, through pregnancy and the postpartum period, to perimenopause and menopause. She supports women navigating anxiety, depression, hormonal change, trauma, ADHD and major life transitions.
Women’s mental health can be influenced by hormones, reproductive experiences, relationships, work, family, sleep, physical health and the many roles women carry. Her care is designed to consider the whole person — not just a diagnosis.
